Canton-Benton-Shellsburg Volunteer
Fire Department
Welcome to the Canton-Benton-Shellsburg Volunteer
Fire Department. We serve three townships, which includes the
city of Shellsburg.
Our department has 21 volunteers who live within two miles
of our five bay fire station. The Shellsburg fire station is
located in the center of town and holds our four fire trucks.
We have two grasshopper trucks which are used for field fires,
combined they contain 600 gallons of water and can transport
7 firemen. Our main pumper carries 5 firemen and 900 gallons
of water. The department has recently purchased a new tanker
in 1999, the truck holds 1800 gallons of water and is capable
of pumping also with a 1250 GPM pump on the truck.
Shellsburg Fire Department has an active role in teaching fire
prevention to our elementary children. We sponsor our fire prevention
poster contest, the Great Escape home fire drill contest and
visit with the children at school about fire safety.
The department is fortunate to have a firemen's auxiliary who
are very supportive with fire department activities. They are
active in raising funds for our departments needs and support
during Fire Prevention Week.
